Lotus Elise S1
An early Lotus Elise in stunning red powered by the 1.8i K series Rover engine and 5 speed gearbox. This classic car is a continuation of our theme of great British sports cars through the decades.
This car with its Rover power unit and built in Norfolk fits with our philosophy yet brings us forward a few years into the 90s. An extruded aluminium bonded chassis clad in a lovely shaped fibreglass shell with wide rear haunches and tailored front end.
This is good open top motoring with roof off yet you are protected by the roll bar and rear window from some buffeting. You sit low in this slim line seat (with little padding) in a no frills cabin having climbed in as if you were getting in a racing car, with your bum almost touching the ground. The engine roars into life and sits behind you with a deep burble and a crisp, responsive rev range. The car wraps itself around you helping you to feel a part of it.
The drive is like being in a go kart (except you are protected by the deep wide sills) with the need for concentration and balance of handling with the responsive engine – this is fun and not for the faint hearted. This car suits a range of roads and is ideal for the open road and detailed winding bends.
This car is not for those who are inflexible or ‘vertically challenged’ as you need to be able to flex muscles and limbs to get in and out – the seat does not go forward far so 5’6” is probably the minimum height for this car. The car has limited storage space so no big bags!
A great classic car in its early stages of maturity that will provide a fun experience of traditional driving with no high tech electronics to tell you what to do. To be enjoyed and respect what we, the British, can produce.
